URBAN LEGENDS DESCEND ON HEARTLANDS

Festival of urban sport, music, dance and art set to nurture new talent.

Cornwall skateboarding legend, Leo Smith and prolific street artist Cosmic are just two of the amazing talents heading to Heartlands to take part in the attraction’s first Urban Festival.

The event, on 1-2 September from 12noon-8pm both days, was put together after many teenagers and young adults in the Camborne, Pool and Redruth area contacted Heartlands to ask if it was possible to provide more activities specifically for their age group.

Activities over the weekend will include a large skateboarding area by King Ramps with live demonstrations from professional skateboarders and BMX-ers; a street skate zone by Xtravert; Cornish hip hop and drum and bass DJs and MCs; urban dance workshops including hip hop and breakdancing; and street art demonstrations and workshops with Cosmic amongst other artists.

It is hoped the event will help with Heartlands’ charitable objectives to raise aspirations in the CPR area encouraging the younger generations not only to try out new activities, but also have the opportunity to meet and talk to inspirational people such as Cosmic and Leo.

Heartlands is also on the look out for new talent to add to the line-up and is giving the opportunity to new bands, artists, musicians and DJs to perform at the event.

Visitors to the event will be able to work on their entry for the Whatever it Takes Design a Cornish Skateboard Competition which was launched on 9 August by the charity, Bridging Arts.  The competition will be judged by pro-skateboarder, Nick Jensen and winners and other entries will be put on display at Heartlands in a two-month show starting in October alongside other work by Fos and Nick Jensen amongst other artists.  For more information, visit www.bridging-arts.com

Heartlands Urban Festival is on 1-2 September 2012, from 12noon – 8pm.  Entry to Heartlands is free, but skateboarding and BMX activities will include a nominal fee.  Pro skateboarder and BMX demonstrations will be across both days, but Leo Smith will be skateboarding on Sunday only around 12noon – 1pm.
