Wheal Play & Family Activities

Wheal Play is a bright and colourful soft play centre, with a cheery team dedicated to providing you with a fantastic experience.

Opening hours: Monday to Sunday.

Play sessions are 9-11am, 11.30–1.30pm and 2–4pm

We provide a safe place for your children to play, giving you time to relax. We’re open all year round. Come and play!

Based in the Old Carpenters Workshop, with a beautiful wooden beam celling and original features, the Red River Café is the perfect place to grab a coffee, or enjoy a delicious lunch.

We serve uncomplicated, but imaginative food, working with fresh local produce where possible and endeavour to cater for all dietary requirements.

Museum & Heritage

Heartlands, was born out of the former mining complex at Robinson’s Shaft in the village of Pool, part of the mining heart of Cornwall.

Open Monday to Sunday 10–4pm

The Camborne and Redruth area that surrounds Heartlands was designated World Heritage Site status in 2006 by UNESCO as part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape.

The bal maiden tour

Saturday 2nd September 2023 - 7.30pm

The Countrymen are a Cornish Folk Rock Harmony Group from Launceston

Five seasoned musicians with tight four-part harmony vocals and a token Cornishman. With a relaxed and light-hearted presentation style they take the audience on a journey through the history and culture of Cornwall, featuring their own arrangements of traditional and contemporary songs, as well as original material. Interspersed with the occasional pop cover to lighten the mood when required, there is no mistaking that to a man, they love their county with a passion.

Now in their sixth year, they have been becoming increasingly popular across both Devon & Cornwall with appearances on both radio and TV and numerous festival appearances including The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, The Rock Oyster Festival, Falmouth Week, Bridport Folk Festival and Little Orchard Festival. 

2023 will see the band take on a fourth concert tour of both Cornwall and Devon entitled “Bal Maiden” which is the track title to one of the new tracks for a third forthcoming album.

“Fantastic band! Great harmonies and mix of music. Don’t miss them!”

The band was formed from an Open Mic Night at their local, The Countryman Inn near Launceston, which is where the band’s name originates.  They soon found a mutual love of singing in harmony and almost accidentally developed a strong reputation for an emphasis on Cornishness in the repertoire.

In addition to offering quality live entertainment on stage, they have also been busy in the recording studio and have released three online EPs to date, Cornish Lads Vol.1, 2 and not unsurprisingly, Cornish Lads Vol.3. 

They have also released two albums, “Trees On The Hill” and more recently, “The River Rolls On”.

Most frequent questions and answers

We will not be sending out physical tickets. All tickets are sent by email. If you have not received an email ticket, in the first instance, please check your email junk folder. If your ticket is not in there please email info@heartlandscornwall.com with your email address and the name of each attendee.

Please let us know via email or phone so we can update the name on the tickets.

Unfortunately, we cannot permit food and drink to be brought into the event. There will be a range of drinks available to purchase once inside.

Heartlands is a dog-friendly site, however, we have decided for this event to exclude furry friends from attending this as the crowds and loud music may be upsetting for some dogs.

The event is intended for adults, however, we have not put restrictions on purchasing tickets for family members that are under 18, as we are aware some families would like to bring their teenage children. Please be mindful when purchasing tickets for younger people, that you will be responsible for their care and supervision of them during the event as may be adults around letting their hair down and having a good time.
